Book #23: Prey

Oct 03, 2012 12:13

Before we get to the book, Google made me blink earlier today. I think I'm allergic to my hairspray (I only use it on one section of my hair, and that section of my scalp itches and burns every day), and I wanted to find out how common that might be.

That's pretty common with Crichton's books. He did the same thing in The Andromeda Strain, and also in Jurassic Park, no? It's been a while since I read that one.

I don't remember it so much in Jurassic Park (or maybe it meshed better with the scenes?). I'm not sure if I've read Andromeda or not... Now that you mention it, I think I heard this kind of thing was common from him, yeah.

I've heard of some stuff that could in theory lead to the 'after intercourse' search, but I am completely mystified by the 'after bowel movement' one.

Sounds like people are letting stuff come out the wrong end.

Wipe with bare hands, so can't pull up pants, so clean hands on hair? That's about the only image I can come up with on that one.

... You know, there's a solution to this. *does the google search* ... Okay, that was a bad idea. I got no answers, but more unwanted mental images.

The lack of reviews on Amazon US might be because she's a British author and better known over here - the Amazon UK site for Gullstruck Island has 15 reviews, and while Amazon UK sometimes imports the US site's reviews for books it looks like the US one doesn't do the reverse.

Also it's really weird for me to run into people reading Frances Hardinge's stuff who aren't people I know through LARP (she's one of the people I've met, though not talked to much out-of-character, at the UK fest LARP I used to do :).

Ah ha, you're right! I forgot Amazon has a different site for UK.

And wow, cool! She must be a fun person.

I've seen some hilarious/shocking google suggestions on commonly searched for items. I should follow suit and take a screencap next time. XD
