Go ahead, boggle with me! I've not read HP fanfic in years. I haven't seen the last movies. I'm not into the fandom at all anymore. I have zero interest in reading fanfic from it.

Then I came across a post on my friendsfriends page. I've never done this before, but credit for everything between the two lines goes to themountaingoat. Below is her post, copied ( Read more... )

Harry Potter fic? Talk about some serious nostalgia. *_* I'm going to check this out because I was thoroughly in love with the world (despite some flaws) and anything that takes me back to it is worth peeking at.

Be warned! If you check it out, you might not be able to stop. I've been reading for hours. My poor eyes! But I can't stop. :D

I've read a bit of that series. \0/ I remember it being on the fav list on an ff.net author I loved, and I was diving into it and then school happened. :C

I find the story strangely compelling. I don't like all his writing-- there are a couple parts that made me eh-- there's just something /interesting/ about the concept. He's got that flair where he could be writing about paint drying, and for some reason you'd still be there.

Aww, school! So important, but so in the way.

I'm eight chapters in and I'm fine so far, but I think I have to try to force myself to stop reading. My eyes can't take so much non-stop reading! Stupid eyes, be stronger!

I would lend you my eyes but that would be creepy. :| Plus, what if they got lost in the mail?

And yes, school. :[ Ruining all my lazy fun times.

I am seriously delighted with your post, because there have been several posts on my f-list in the last one-two weeks by people who have not been in the HP fandom for years, but have recently and quite by chance discovered a HP fic they loved. It's like a small and very pleasant epidemic :-)

Ha, that's great! I have no ill feelings towards the fandom, I didn't leave on a bad note or anything, so I'm happy to read that. :D

In the same "rewrite the main character of a popular series as a rationalist" vein, there's a retelling of the Twilight series called Luminosity that does a similar thing for Bella (and is inspired by Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality).

I've not read Twilight other than in a series of deconstructions on a blog I read, and that's persuaded me not to go near the books (I saw the first film, which was apparently better than the books but still not great) - Luminosity, on the other hand, makes Bella interesting and smart and the story as a whole is a good read, and isn't so much a romance as a pretty cool adventure/thriller by the end. :)

Wow, that sounds interesting! Once I'm done with this one (if I ever do, SO LONG!), I'll check that one out.

Thanks!
