BBC's Merlin, odd summer

Aug 06, 2009 09:29

This is the strangest summer ever. It rained this morning, which is so very rare here. (Most of our rain falls in a three month period during winter.) Plus this week we had two days where the high temperature was 68. In August. Cooler is much better than hot, but it's just very strange ( Read more... )

*googles* Ha! That looks amusing! Is it mostly a comedy or more than that?

It's mostly comedy but it also has that "life lessons, never give up, work together" anime undercurrent that a bunch of them have.

I grabbed all the episodes and I watch an episode here or there and I'm on like 25 (out of 145...) currently and it's still going pretty good. Although they are going to have to do something or else it's gonna get pretty stale pretty fast. I heard it was mostly good until the 90's when it falters for about 10 or 20 episodes but then the end of it is supposed to be good as well.

Wow, 145 eps would keep me busy though! I'll put it on my list!

Have you ever watched Supernatural?

Yeah, I downloaded the first season and watched four or five eps. My first thought when I started Merlin was that it was basically the same thing as Supernatural (then Merlin got a magic book with seemingly all the answers to everything and I laughed even more).

I don't hate Supernatural, I'm just mostly indifferent to it. It mildly annoys me (it's so silly and the boys never get into trouble even when they punch cops or something like that), but I don't hate it.

I semi-intend to watch at least the season I have, but I'm not in a rush and I doubt I'll get more.

Thanks for the idea though! :)

I nearly commented at you yesterday, but couldn't because of time...

...but, yeah. Don't expect much from "Merlin". I've only seen the first two episodes, but my take on it is that it's pure and unadulterated cheese. And I'm not talking the fancy French stuff, I'm talking Cheese Whiz.

It is, however, slashtastic, as told to me by my slash writing friends who've watched most if not all of the series.

We started watching it this week, and spent most of the 90 minutes mocking it. But that, in and of itself, is a form of entertainment. :)

Yeah, the slashiness is what drew me to it, and I have to admit the boys sure are pretty and look good together. I have a hard time with shows like this (and Supernatural, which this reminded me a lot of) because I like dark and serious stuff. I'm going to stick with both of them, but probably in low doses of them.

Have you ever seen Dead Like Me? It's a pretty darkly humorous (if already dated) series that I think would be right up your alley.

It kinda goes to pot after the first season, though, and the movie...well, let's just forget about the movie.

*reads the link* Oh that sounds interesting! Seems like I might have seen part of an ep, but I should give it more of a chance.

Thanks!

Personally, I've been enjoying Burn Notice lately. First episode didn't do much for me, but I stuck with it at the girlfriend's behest, and it has been rather good thus far (most of the way through season 2). Synopsis- main character is a spy who gets fired abruptly during a mission, gets dropped in Miami, and has to figure out who is responsible. Funds for this main project are gained by taking do-good fixer jobs.

The main spy doesn't take things too seriously, Bruce Campbell is a major character, and most of the hacks and bomb-making tricks are pretty damn close to accurate.

Huh! I should have thought of Burn Notice, a lot of people I know have been watching that lately. Woo, thanks! I'll try to remember to grab the first season tonight so I can watch it next after Merlin.
