FIC: Affirmation (Ronon Dex/John Sheppard)

Jan 08, 2006 22:52

This is a belated birthday present for shrift. :)

Set post-The Long Goodbye. Sequel to Habituation and a continuation of the Revelation series. Thanks go to crysothemis for letting me pounce on her the minute she got back from vacation, and to destina, who would be within her rights to act like a BNF, but instead just acts like a really good friend.

*happy happy sigh* As always, this story is wonderful and you are wonderful and the universe is wonderful because you're in it and writing this story etc.

Ah. Yes. Ever since I finally watched The Long Goodbye I've been waiting and hoping you'd write a post episode fic. Without knowing exactly what you'd write, this is still exactly what I'd hoped it would be. Poor Ronon, I've always thought he felt a certain scorn toward the Atlanteans guns in comparison to that hand cannon of his, but I suspect he's been forced to re-evaluate how nasty a chunk of metal ripping through the body can be. You handled the aftermath that the show didn't give us excellently - in particular that Weir would be tremendously uncomfortable with Ronon after those events.

Of course, the sex was hot and richly emotional, too, but in this series that's almost a given. If I smoked, I'd be having a cigarette right now.

That's a great compliment -- thank you! There were just some things that I thought got glossed over on the ep. :)

*long happy sigh* You know, I really, really liked that. I can totally see Ronon the way you describe him, and I love love love the guilt thing and Ronon wanting his share.

Thank you.

It just seemed like something he would recognize, you know? I'm glad you liked it.

I'll say it again - I adore your Ronon. Your Sheppard is pretty damn good, too. You've really picked up their speech patterns and cadence. I can almost hear their voices saying the words.

I liked your Beckett, too. For a medical man who's spent more than a year in another galaxy and seen what he's seen, there's a charming innocence about him.

And then there's the trust issues.

Ronon is a very simple man. He doesn't see too many shades of grey because most things are either black or white for him. He doesn't angst over things he has no control over. What is - is. It wasn't Weir that shot him. It wasn't Sheppard that tricked him. Sure, everyone could have used a little better judgment but it's done now. Learn from it and move on.

And this: Ronon puts his hand over Sheppard's. "I'd rather trust you and die than not trust you."

Dear god! If that doesn't scream 'I love you' in macho man speak nothing does

Also, the itching thing was hilarious! *g*

I adore you!

Ronon knows it could have been worse, and he uses the pain to remind himself he's still alive because, in the end, nothing else really matters.

So simple, so Ronon.

Ronon's eyes sting when he feels the wind on his face, the sun beaming down on him. It feels better than any pain medication.

Love that Sheppard knows what will make Ronon feel better.

"Yes, I did. Loudly," Sheppard said. "But I still don't know if that's why he did it."

Great conversation. Of course Sheppard would blame himself, even if he'd done everything he could.

In addition to the healing cut, there are eighteen torturous little holes where staples once held his skin together. Those itch pretty bad. But it's the strip of shaved pubic hair that's really driving him crazy.

ROTFL!!!

"I do worry about it," Sheppard says. "You should be able to trust your leader."

Aw, I like that Sheppard is concerned and that Ronon wants to get over it and on with the itch scratching. The hot, hot itch scratching. ;)

"The same way you knew I'd be there. I know how you think." ( ... )

Whew. Thank you for that, and for leaving John speechless.

Also, ow! You make rehab hurt as much as it ought to, even with Ronon's super-high pain threshold.
