Anderson paced up and down the aisles of the church. So far the barriers hadn't been tested, between the children's creatures and himself they had kept the ghouls at bay.  He ran down the list of supplies in his head reassuring himself that they had enough.  Saying a quick pray to the Lord he readied himself at ( Read more... )

"NNnnnggghh..." Anakin squinted his eyes against the harsh glare of the church lights. He wasn't wearing his mask--

I was attacked by the undead

Ah, yes. He couldn't stay here. But where was Luke- that probably hadn't happened. Hallucination? Most likely.

He rolled over and checked the respirator keeping him alive while his suit was out of commission. Someone had placed it on a wheeled cart for mobility- good. He struggled to his feet and headed towards the exit.

The Force was still with him, after all.

Shego looked at him, and then up to the ceiling. The beautiful pictures on the church, that were supposed to provide hope, inspiration-

Sickening.

She looked down to her partner, but spoke to Anakin. Her breathing had slowed, but she was still exhausted. It took everything in her not to pass out right there.

"You must be a blast at parties."

When the world wins.

He laughed- it sounded more like a wheeze. "I have one good trick- I made the entire room go silent whenever the Emperor asked for my presence at a function. Politicians..." he grimaced in disgust.

She looked at him, eyes hard.

"I despite politicians. Not just because I'm a criminal, either." Shego made great strives to prove she wasn't evil, to prove she could be trusted, but she couldn't bring herself to use past tense. Used to be a criminal. She couldn't do it. She hadn't changed at all, had she?

She ignored the fact that her father had been a mayor and, if he hadn't died and her uncle took over, her brother would be one, as well. Now he worked at a taco shop. Funny how life works.

"Those who claim to help others are worse criminals than you," he said, bitterly. "In all my years amongst the Senate, I only met one who wasn't furthering her own agenda."

The words were out before he knew it. He scrambled to changed the subject.

"Why do you cling to your Sith name?"

She looked at him with surprise, and then away angrily.

"Because it's who I am. I'm not.. I'm not Samantha anymore." Her voice got surprisingly soft.

"And I never will be."

Anakin knew the feeling.

"We cannot presume to know the future. It is always in motion." he stopped. Why did those words make sense to him now?

"A very wise man once told me that your focus determines your reality. It's not what we cling to, but what we learn to let go of that makes you strong."

"Well, I'm letting go of that dumb name. That's all behind me now. How.. did you know about my real name, anyways?" She was curious.

"Your thoughts betray you. You can claim to be immersed in the Dark, but the Force still echoes with your real name." he paused. "You are trained in the Force, are you not?"

She shook her head.

"The Force? No. I'm trained in several different martial arts styles, though." Her favourite being wu style tai chi chuan.

"We don't have the Force where I come from, Metal."

A galaxy without the Jedi had been difficult to comprehend, but for a brief time the Emperor had succeeded at making one. An entire galaxy without The Force...

"Impossible." He sighed. "Though I suppose it would not be the first impossible thing I have encountered in my time here. Later, perhaps, when you deign to let me get up we can see how the Jedi of other galaxies fight without the aid of the Force."

Shego grinned lazily.

"If you're asking for a fight, you've got one, Metal. But I think I need a few days." She sighed. That's why she didn't use that attack more- god knows it was powerful.

Shego was having a harder time keeping herself awake, so she decided maybe she'd take another nap. Still sitting against the wall, legs stretched out, she slumbered lightly. Pagumon slept as well, snoring lightly but with his face still in Shego's stomach.

Anakin scowled. "That is not my name." He considered Force-suggesting sleep on her, but did not think it wise. Force knew he would be in for it when she woke up.
