Draco breathed a sigh of relief as he entered the library. Finally something here on the base looked familiar; the library was still its usual massive self. Since people could come to area42 from anywhere, the library ( Read more... )

After asking for directions as Draco had suggested, Lupin successfully located the library. He'd been handling the base rather well since he was used to strange things--lycanthropy at a young age, wizard school at eleven, death in his late thirties; but the size of the library still managed to surprise Lupin. And then he was surprised that he was surprised because, after all, he had attended Hogwarts which wasn't an inconsiderable size either.
But how was he supposed to find Draco? There was no yelling allowed in libraries (Madame Pince, to this day, scared Lupin into the best library behavior) He pathetically whispered "Draco...Draco" and then realized that that wasn't very useful at all.
After wandering around a bit, he spotted someone who looked very Malfoy. Lupin squinted. The age didn't seem right. Draco should be older--not by much, but still, older.
"Er--Draco?" He said at a normal volume.

Draco turned at the sound of his voice. "Lupin." He wrinkled his nose slightly, but nodded his head in what was a reasonably polite fashion. He may have decided he could tolerate Lupin's presence, but old habits die hard, and he wasn't going to do anything so respectful as to call him Professor or anything.

He did pause to give the older man a haughty once over though. "You look ... well, I wouldn't have thought it was even possible, but ... you look even worse than the last time I saw you."

The look on Draco's face was a cross between a sneer and a condescending smile, as if he wasn't quite sure how he was supposed to react.

Remus smiled politely. Oh, kids. And Malfoys. Malfoy kids. The worst.

The nose wrinkling, haughtiness and sneering all registered and Lupin's mouth twitched into an even wider smile. Lupin didn't expect anything more out of the boy. Though he was surprised Draco was helping at all, instead of just whining and panicking, selfish motives aside.

Remus laughed. "I didn't think it was possible for me to look worse either, but the years have never been kind to me." You are...well, you are just as tactless as ever.

"Thank you for your help, Draco."

Draco looked away and shrugged awkwardly. "Yeah, well ... unless my Godfather or some other potion master comes here, there isn't really anyone else ... so," he shrugged again, and glanced back at Remus' face before quickly looking away again. "... you're welcome."

In an effort to change the subject, Draco then turned and went over to one of the library tables, which was already piled high with books. "I've selected these to begin with ... the library has every book ever published, so we should have everything we need, we'll just have to find it first."

Draco grimaced and then looked up at Lupin again. "You didn't happen to take NEWT level potions, did you? Cuz I was only half way through. Since I've been here a while, I've been trying to study the rest on my own. All the books are here obviously, but without a proper lab or a proper instructor it's been a little ..." Draco shrugged. "Anyway, if you have done advanced potions, that would ... help, I suppose ..."
