Of course Mac's nervous when he enters the clinic. Who wouldn't be? But he doesn't show it. Outwardly, he's as cool, calm and collected as ever. Without this operation, he keeps reminding himself, he would die anyway. Nothing to lose.
He offers a hand to Hawkeye when they meet. "Here goes nothing, right?"
Hawkeye took his hand and shook it. "Yeah, here goes nothing." Leading the way he headed to Pre Op. "I'll let the nurses get you set up then. Don't worry...we'll get you through this."
Caroline spots Mac and Hawkeye on their way and joins them. She's operating in full doctor-mode now, the emotion of earlier set aside in favor of as much professionalism as she can possibly summon. Such focus is the only way she can give Mac her very best effort, she knows.
Plus she may have had a minor chocolate binge a little earlier to settle her nerves. Possibly.
But being professional doesn't mean she can't also be encouraging, and it's in that spirit that she takes one of Mac's hands and gives it a squeeze, pairing it with her best smile. "Hey."
"I don't doubt it," Mac replies to Hawkeye, although really? He doubts it very much at this stage. The morbid pre-op thoughts have definitely settled in.
Caroline appears as they're walking, and he struggles not to tense up when she reaches for his hand and attempts conversation. Still, all she receives is a terse "Hey" in return.
