Who: Theoden (Open)
Where: The Holodeck/Edoras
What: Memories

Theoden, King of Rohan, had found the holodeck. With some tinkering he'd managed to get it to recreate Edoras, his home. Now, he quietly walked the floors of the Golden Hall. It was all here, in perfect detail. The carvings, the sunlight streaming in through the windows, the fire pit, the ( Read more... )

Kirk had begun to worry about how much time he was spending in the holodeck. It was getting to the point where he could barely make it twenty-four hours without popping in to spend some quality time with the illusion of his ship. Sometimes he would wake up in the middle of the night and be unable to fall back asleep before he was sitting in the photonic recreation of his Captain's chair.

Just an hour... or two, he told himself as he entered the holodeck. I won't be able to see her as often once UNIT is running, might as well spend as much time- oh, dammit there's someone here.

"Hello... Your Majesty," he said hesitantly. "Forgive me, I... wasn't aware the room was in use."

Theoden turned, startled. He hadn't expected anyone else to be here today. He bowed his head in acknowledgment, doing his best to smile. Really, it was rather depressing. "Hail, Kirk of Starfleet. Yes... I... discovered this place recently. It is powerful magic, is it not, that can recreate places from my memories?"

He gestured to the Golden Hall. "Medulsed! The Golden Halls! This is my home, at Edoras. Glorious, isn't it?"

"It's... magnificent." He meant it too. Edoras' splendor, the nobility which seemed built into the foundation of the place, rivaled the wonders of any number of worlds Kirk had explored. "I suppose we all have to... make do with this 'magic' until we can get back to the real thing, don't we?" And I will get back, he told himself savagely, mentally beating back the waves of despair which had been edging in on him in recent weeks. No such thing as the no-win situation. Even here.

Theoden smiles sadly and sits on the throne, cupping his chin in his hand. "Yes, I suppose so." He frowns, and then looks up at Kirk. "Although, I am afraid that even should I return to my own world, my own place... I will not Edoras again. I was snatched away at the hour of my death. But rather I would have remained there and perished among my own people in battle, then die here of old age."
