Allana stopped when she heard someone crying down the hall. And then toddled closer, her fingers clutching at her stuffed tauntaun.

The four year old stopped in front of the woman and tilted her head. "Why cwy?"

The question caused Sarah to look up. She wiped at her eyes, trying her bloody best to get the tears away.

That was the problem with crying in public. People eventually found you, even when you didn't want to be found.

She shook her head. "I'm not."

"You are." She said patiently before offering the stuffed tauntaun. "Maybe Jacen'll make you feel better? You can hug him."

Sarah Jane gave the tauntaun a look. She couldn't even recognise the animal.

A part of her had always wanted children. But that part, the part with the patience for such thing, had been long since buried.

"It's quite alright," she answered quickly. "You hold him."

Izzy was wandering the base, as he tended to do these days. He was still trying to map out crooks and crannies of it. He still hadn't counted the number of barracks and apartments. Tentomon was flitting along behind him and they talked quietly.

"Tentomon, I just think it's a good idea to know where we are!"

His digimon gave a buzzing reply, "But you heard Ken! There are dangerous people out here!"

Izzy shrugged, "Knowledge is power..."

He trailed off as they came around the corner and he spotted a young woman huddled on the floor. She seemed to be crying. Hurriedly, he shut his laptop and hurried over. When he spoke English, it was with a Japanese accent.

"Are you alright?"

Next time, it would be a spare room. Or maybe she'd go find the flipping bar. Anything but feel like this where people - kids, the lot of them - could find her.

Sarah nodded, although rather weakly. She wanted to be strong so much but with the way her heart kept sinking to her stomach...

"As fine as I could be, thank you."

Izzy nodded, still eying her with concern.

"Are you sure? If you need help, I'd be happy to."

"Haven't found a bloody way out of here, have you?"

Because then, at least, she could get away from him. From them, really. Go and live her life the way it was obviously meant to be.

Alone.

The hangover from her massive drunk has finally receded enough to allow her to walk fully upright again, though not quite at full speed. Caroline is just rounding a corner on her way to the clinic when she's startled by the sight of a young woman sobbing on the floor. She immediately goes to her side and lays a careful hand on her shoulder to get her attention.

"Hello there. I'm sorry to bother you, but if you need any help ... well, I'm a doctor." Maybe she can be useful to someone around here.

A doctor.

A bloody doctor.

Hadn't her life been filled with enough of those?

"It's not medical," Sarah answered quickly. The bitterness in her voice wasn't directed at Caroline but more so at the very thought of the word doctor. She kept her head hidden in her lap, not really wanting to let more of the world see how upset she was.

The bloody git.

Dear God, this girl looks exactly like how Caroline feels right now. The wave of empathy that washes over her eases the ache in her chest and distracts her from the lingering traces of hangover. After a moment's hesitation, she sits down next to the other woman and leans over a bit to try to catch her eye.

"Look, I completely understand if you'd rather be left alone right now, but if you could use someone to talk to, I've got two sympathetic ears not in use at the moment." She smiles. "I'm Caroline."

"Sarah Jane," she mumbled. It wasn't like her not to speak clearly. But she couldn't muster up the energy to do so now. "Sarah Jane Smith, that is."

She offered a weak smile. It was the best she could do.
