Just been very, very busy.

Today is the last day of posting for hds_beltane. I have two things left to post this evening. (Yes, ships_harry, one of them is your gift fic - you are not forgotten!) It has been really difficult this year. There were fewer sign-ups to start with, a high number of dropouts, nearly all of them on or after the deadline. Commenting seems to ( Read more... )

I keep hoping that you will run into those lads and end up firm friends. They were foolishly hilarious!

YES! Though you have to send me your head measurement and whether you prefer brown or purply red. No reason ...

oh, birthday, yes, have a happy one! THANK YOU for modding this fest which I have been enjoying extremely. I've been commenting whenever I had something usefuol to say and I think there's been a LOT of good stuff, including some excellent stuff. I imagine some people will be reccing more after it's over and more comments will come in. I have about 8 people on my friends liist so haven't posted any recs but I'm sure more will come in. It is not for naught that you did all this work. I have to go to work now but will read the last few tonight.

Don't know anything about Lisbon except for reading "The History of the Siege of Liisbon" in which the bored and frustrated proofreader decides to insert a "not" into a poorly written history of said siege, and then has to live out the difference it makes.

I'm glad you enjoyed the fest - there has been some great stuff, and a lot of it cam e quite late, so there's an element of "worth waiting for", but OMG stressful.

That sounds like a fantastic story, and I am going to look into it!

It's a novel by Jose Saramago, who won the Nobel prize for literatire, and may be of particular interest to betas! I remember the lovely scene of the blind muezzin waking everyone with the call to prayer ,and the note that muezzins were supposed to be blind so that they couldn't spy down on people's lives from up there. And also that act of rebellion from the proofreader of a shoddily researched book. And the dare that his editor makes him. The book itself is written in a style all its own and does not follow the conventions of pundtuation and spacing so takes a bit of getting used to, but unique.

CHRISTOPHER BROOKMYRE! I have all his books, ALL his books, unless he is at the bookshop because he is putting out something new already? Cos Pandaemonium was pretty recent, really.

(also, yay for gift later today - your timing is fab, because I would probably have felt guilty taking much time to read it before the last couple of days - I *should* be able to read and comment straight away today :) )

Ah, I suppose I can wish you a happy birthday in *your* timezone :). Lazy days... *rolls around in them* I didn't get out of bed until nearly TEN today, brilliant.

He has a new one out - Where The Bodies Are Buried. Actually, I think Pandaemonium might have been two years ago. Normally he has one out every summer, Dude is crazy prolific. And I, too, have ALL THE BROOKMYRES.

I... am feeling like a bit of a crazed fangirl right now, actually, because it's in about 3/4 of an hour. *flail*

Glad you are enjoying the chance to be lazy now you are done. :o)

Ah. I think perhaps they come out here a little slower, because it definitely wasn't 2 years ago that it showed up in Borders!

MAINLY, EEE. I will have to go look on the book depository and see if they have it.

Now that you've been, was it a bit neat?

Or I might have got it wrong. I just remember looking to see what was coming out at some point (my sense of the flow of time is, and has been for a while now, completely shot) and thinking "No book this summer wot?"

It was neat! I got chatting to the girl siitting next to me, who had driven three hours to see him because she is doing her dissertation on him, and we had fangirl squee. And then I mocked us for fangirling the short balding Scotsman. :oD

He is lovely, though. We ended up going to the pub with him after. Christopher Brookmyre bought me drink. \o/

This book should be interesting, though. It's actually more of a serious crime drama than his usual. He told us he had his sense of humour surgically reduced, as it was the only way to get through a year that included both a visit from the Pope and a royal wedding.

I want to go to Lisbon too! It is on my list of places to see. *nods*

I have read some really good stories over at hds_beltane. Thanks for doing this.

It's a lovely place, well worth visiting.

There are some amazing stories and art there, so there's a sense of satisfaction in that.
