That was great fun! The idea of Falstaff as space pirate delighted me, and the hijinks transferred quite well to the setting. But my favorite thing about this fic is Doll Tearsheet, the not-so-secretly FABULOUS sex droid.

I read the intro to this, and I thought, "Falstaff is a space pirate -- well OF COURSE he is." (N.B. I love space pirates like nothing else). Lots of great parallels to the plays in here, and a really moving, insightful look at Falstaff, too. I loved the part about Hal looking like he's not a real person, and Falstaff reflecting that it really meant something to have been in the wars without trying to explain to the younger men.

Oh, this is LOVELY.

As you can tell, I'm a fan of Falstaff, so this is absolutely perfect. I love the Doll (model name: Tearsheet) who looks not one bit human but who has a tough and very human mind and who's more than capable of looking after Jack Falstaff. I love that it's not a good year to be French in English space, and that the beacons indicating Scottish space are easily changed and stolen, and that Hal doesn't look quiet real. I love that being in the wars meant something and that Falstaff doesn't try to explain it. I love that Falstaff can be so clearly hurt by Hal's stealing and yet that Hal can be completely blind to it...and that Falstaff can all but pretend his hurt out of existence.

And I sporfled when the Doll needed to go to a fungus specialist, because that was just perfect.

It's funny and it's sad at the same time. And Falstaff, space pirate, is completely himself.

I love this SO MUCH! Thank you!

Space Pirat Falstaff is a fantastic idea, and you give him magnificent reality. Oh, I wish for a whole novel in this AU!

I adore the narrative voice you've given Falstaff -- he's just as matter-of-fact as he is in canon, and with that same grim self-awareness that translates so perfectly to a futuristic setting. And this universe is so much fun! You've done magnificent things with Doll and I love how Mistress Quickly is a bright spot of kindness in an increasingly anarchic world -- and Hal is SO wonderfully creepy! (Also, super bonus points for Poins with green nail varnish!)
