This was the last song I ever discussed with Jimmy. Looking back, I realize the song struck a chord because he felt trapped and lost. He risked everything to come out as a gay man. And instead of the freedom he had hoped for, he received a death sentence. It was the last conversation I remember us having before he quietly slipped off into oblivion. And then he was gone- vanished into a heterosexual world he thought could stave off the plague inside of him.
