When I get home the remains of the scrambled eggs are left on the stove. Cold and the spatula’s still in the pan. Roasted potatoes in a Ziploc bag lie encased on a plate on the counter; they’re leftovers from the Sunday evening birthday party. I can’t say I’m not hurt that it’s come down to this: alone again, soon to be on my own forever
