I've been contacted by Yadoumaru's kidnappers. A note has been delivered, copied here in its entirety (the original is on route to you now, Soi Fon):

The Vaizard have three days to leave Seireitei for good. She will be returned unharmed based entirely on your compliance.Obviously, this isn't good. We must step up our efforts to locate Yadoumaru, ( Read more... )

Oh, You've gotta be fuckin' kidding me.

Sir, as captain of only one of two divisions to officially have a Vaizard on the roster, I'd like to volunteer to lead whatever investigation efforts are put into effect. Hinamori's been handling the paperwork by herself for two years, I think she can hold the fort for a few days while we get this resolved. This whole situation's fuckin' disgusting, and if we don't make it obvious we're not gonna stand for this shit it's not gonna stop.

I've been having issues, too--Zabimaru won't--or can't--speak to me at all. I was worried I'd pissed him off, but after hearing I'm not the only one it seems there's something bigger at work here.

Please allow me to assist in any way I can, Captain Abarai. Our division is the most familiar with Yadoumaru-san, and I have had several people volunteer their time to help in the search.

Sir, several of our squad leaders are reporting their men having difficulties in releasing their swords. My sword spirit is similarly... dormant; it is certainly there, but sounds as if it were speaking under water, and I cannot comprehend a word.

Works for me; I've got a few more photos for you, too. Found that other list of off-duty officers that I'd been lookin' for, so there's four more. Ah...you want me to swing by Eighth later with 'em? We can try and hammer out a plan, 'cuz I for one ain't gonna stand for this bullshit anymore.

Come by any time, Captain Abarai. I'll be in the office, and the door is open. I think it is past time that we lay down what we have to work with and then work with it. It would be unfortunate for the Commander to have to issue a general order on the lockdown, though I don't doubt he will do it if we haven't found her by then.

That's not an order I'm assuming we're going to comply with. What kind of reaction are you anticipating from them, sir? For lack of cooperation.

If we can't find her?

I will not ask anyone to comply with such an order. Should we fail to locate Yadoumaru in time, I expect the worst, unfortunately. All the more reason we must do everything remotely possible to locate her.

They did their homework. It's difficult to trace. There's little signs left.

We'll keep working.

Do what you can. That this was done so carefully can be a clue in and of itself.

You have the resources of the Tenth at your disposal, Ukitake-soutaichou.

I am... relieved to hear that. The information is appreciated.

Thank you, Hitsugaya-taichou.

It appears to be universal; no one has been spared from at least some degree of separation from their zanpakutou. Whether this is natural or has a more nefarious root, I cannot say.

I have a hard time believing this all could be circumstantial. The shinigami as a whole unable to wield their zanpakutou? Has that ever happened before? Whether it's directly related to Yadoumaru's abduction or not, I can't say, but I also can't say it's just natural occurrence.
