Some odd disjointed notes

1) I am in a hotel for the week and was delighted to see I get the SciFi channel. Except when I turned it on last night they were showing professional wrestling. Huh? WTF? Sure it's fiction, but it's not science fiction... is it?

2) A UK channel is censoring smoking out of old cartoons. Um, why does this seem particularly silly to me? (Even ( Read more... )

I don't know why Sci-Fi shows ECW. I'd rather watch reruns of almost anything. I suppose this is fantasy, though.

Heh, wouldn't surprise me. But the fantasy element is that this is an actual competitive sport where winners and losers don't have a script to follow.

Apparently, the UK is one of the last places to still show the smoking versions of Tom and Jerry, they've been banned in the States for years. Either the cartoon is gone, or it's been cut.

So smoking is bad but it is okay to have a character whacked in the head by a frying pan so they fall off a cliff while holding a stick of dynamite? Huh?

Yes. Exactly. Given the absurd violence done to cartoon characters from the outside, doing violence to their lungs ought to fit right in.
