Wow. Anyone with any kind of view on gay marriage should watch this. Take the time - it's worth it. I personally would have tossed in a little more on the human rights end, but otherwise this says it all. Sometimes a plea from the heart is worth a dozen sound arguments. Watching this is best, but you can also read the transcript if you prefer (I ( Read more... )

So what he's saying is that all you need is love, then we should get rid of marriages all together, and while we're at it let's get rid of all other traditions we hold dear.

Whatever we do should be the same for everyone. We should all have the same rights. As to traditions, well it was once tradition to keep women pregnant and ignorant. It was once tradition to have slaves. It was once tradition to oppress whole peoples. Human rights are governed by thought and reason, not habit.

Hehe, you went where I declined to. To be fair I tweet (on Twitter) my blog posts, so not all who come here are LJ users and anonymous posting is the LJ default. Other blog software at least asks you for your name.

Thanks for posting this. I wish it had been before the vote.

You make a fine point. Even Obama skirted this one before the election, which regrettably was a smart political decision. In 2004 Bush was reelected primarily on a wave of homophobia, as Rove ensured Prop-8-style ballots were voted on in many swing states, which mobilized the base to a degree that was estimated to be double Bush's final margin of error. Still, as you say, it's too late. But the fight is not yet over. We must persevere.

It was an amazing and heartfelt comment. Sadly, it will do nothing to sway the narrow-minded haters who think otherwise about this issue.

Agreed, but while it is preaching to the choir, it may sway some of those moderates with otherwise liberal//Democrat leanings. When Olbermann first started speaking out we were skeptical about how much difference he could make, but I believe he did make a difference. Maybe he can again.
