Dear Mom, It's Different This Time (or, Leverage is my rebound show)

Feb 04, 2009 15:05

I . . . I have a new show. And I know what you're going to say - honey, are you sure it's the right time for a new show? You just got out of a long relationship with a show that treated you bad! Maybe you should take some time for yourself before getting into another show. But no, mom, this show is different - this show treats me right! This show ( Read more... )

I WANT TO WRAP MYSELF AROUND THIS SHOW AND NOT LET GO. IT FILLS MY HEART WITH JOY UP TO THE TOP OF MY HEART.

Yes yes and YES! I've been acutely aware of the shiny newness and rebound love of lev and .. to the point of singing No Doubt's 'New' and finally getting the lyrics. Leverage hasn't been aired here yet and I'm gushing to strangers at work and getting everyone I know to "get on the damn net already you're gonna love this!"

Oh show. *nods*

This, pretty much my reaction exactly (but with more coherence and less capslocky flail)

I was slightly dissappointed by Alec's lispy stereotypical boyfriend voice, but they MORE than made up for it by the fact that they were leaning on each other BEFORE he went there, and by having Elliot NOT freak out about the whole thing and spend the rest of the ep trying to make it clear that it made him uncomfortable. Instead, he spent the whole rest of the day glancing at Alec out of the corner of his eye and sitting closer than ever (I rewatched THE SCENE and the next scene a few times). It's like he maybe just figured out that they could actually go there.

And the car bomb (and Elliot's little Ray Kowalski "you mean kick it?" moment - the whole scene was very due South for me)! And Alec's "you were going to protect me, right?" Plus, Sophie coming to get Parker because she belongs with them *g* (I may have actually "aww"'d that)

And the whole OT3 fadeout - someone better be writing that post ep!

Yeah, the effeminate boyfriend voice I could've lived without, but hey - that's what I mean by the first paragraph! My new show can do no wrong even when it's doing wrong! I refuse to recognize any signs that new show might also be bad for me! So I'm just going to abandon my usual Doylist standpoint and go all Watsonian on this one - which is to say, I hereby interpret Hardison's lispy voice as a gay guy making fun of gay stereotypes, rather than a straight guy doing it.

I forgot about Sophie going to get Parker because she has a place she BELONGS, with people who are LIKE HER. Team of fuck-ups! It gets me every time.

With you, I await that postep.

I console myself about Nate and Sophie with the logic that if they weren't there, Parker, Hardison, and Spencer would never get anything done, like, literally. They would think about leaving their shared apartment, they would get all amped up about it, then they would find another packed of Top Ramen and a Transformers marathon and that idea would go out the window. So Nate and Sophie are necessary to ensure that they occasionally eat things and have hobbies like fighting crime.

That's my theory.

Also I am trying to find Alec/Eliot caps, and it is not happening yet, but I did find this photo which ... I can't even ... you know how someone, probably you, once pointed out that Sheppard's in the wrong episode every episode? Eliot is in the wrong show right there and it's one of the promo caps. I love this show. I love it in my pants.

Your theory makes plenty of sense! I just wish I didn't have to put up with so much heavy-handed UST and OMG NATE HAS PAIN in every Nate/Sophie scene.

That was me (and the_drifter) who had that whole explanation of John Sheppard (it's still so true!). I love Eliot in the wrong show! Bless. Actually, it did sort of feel in this episode like Eliot and Alec were having their own little adorable wacky show and Nate and Sophie were doing something else (and Parker was, as ever, doing her own thing). SHOW!

Someone should make, like, the Loft Tapes but for Parker and Eliot and Hardison. Then I would watch it over and over again!

Nate's face is totally "where the hell did Elliot get the wind machine!?! And why does it only work on him?" And then he angsts about it.

My affection for this show is slowly growing. I turned off the first episode on the first try because I got bored ten minutes in, but then I tried again and found myself checking streaming sites for new episodes.

I fell first for Hardison, then Parker. Spencer was a bit of a harder sell, eventhough it's Christian Kane.

I would like the show a lot more if Sophie and Nate weren't there, though. They make me want to stab myself in the brain.

Hmm, I think I need icons.

yeah, I found it boring early on too (NATE'S PAIN: I DON'T CARE) but I really think it's gotten better and better with each episode.
