Cerulean Sins - Chapters 33-37

Anita's still leaning against Jean-Claude's door when Nathaniel approaches to tell her that the men that had been following them earlier are back, parked at the Circus watching the place. After how badly the conversation with Jean-Claude and Asher had just gone, Anita decides she could very much use the distraction, so she isn't as upset as she might have been.

Between Bobby Lee, Claudia, Fredo, and a couple of the other wererats -- all ex-military, ex-police, or ex-mercenary -- it's a relatively simple matter to surprise and surround the car and the two men inside. And with a federal marshal badge, it's even easier to get them taken into custody when the local police show up.

What's not easy? Making do with horrible police station coffee for the next three hours while waiting for a possible fictional Detective O'Brian. Just about the time Anita's positive that the other detectives have set up this desk for the express purpose of making her wait, the detective shows up. As it turns out one of the men following Anita had been wanted by Interpol on a shit-ton of espionage and terrorism charges.

Leopold Heinrick, out of Germany, was a first class scumbag. Suspected of working for just about every terrorist group on the planet at one time or another, especially those with a penchant for striking out against people with darker skin than their own. Anita's never heard of him, but a couple of the blurry photos of "known or suspected associates" seem familiar for reasons she can't place. She tries to get a copy of the report and photos to run by Jean-Claude -- Heinrick usually takes jobs with a political agenda, and there's only one kind of politics Anita's involved in -- but the detective won't budge. Anita's federal marshal status is new enough, and there's still too many ongoing questions about what it actually means, that she decides not to push. She makes the decision to push the relatively trivial problem of being followed by an international terrorist in favor of the much more pressing issue of having dinner with Musette.
