Missing Car parts

Some bugger has nicked the flaming dipstick from my car. WTF? Of all the parts to steal, why the frelling dipstick?
The car was serviced  just over a month ago and it was there then.
The only reason we know it's missing is that dad needed it to get to Brisbane,  got to Mudgeereeba and had to pull over because the car was losing power.  The oil light

It would be a DC40 without lifting the bonnet on most cars.

The car's that old that the thing would be useless to pretty much everything else... Unless they also happen to have a 1990 Hyundai Excel... but why stop at the dipstick when there's a whole engine right there?
