My next bunch of book reviews is going to be full of ponies and science; too much military fiction/military history all at once makes Jack a cynical girl. I could at least finish the synaesthesia book or "Evolution's Rainbow".
I think what you are looking for is a SWAT manual or perhaps the RA's "Small Unit Tactics in Urban Environs". Maybe even a good copy of "Left Behind: Guerrilla tactics for enveloped units." The Ranger's Handbook might also be a good read.
If you are looking at 2-3 person teams, check out Bodyguard instructional materials. "It's all about the Principal" is good if you can find it (very small press run and I don't have an ISBN anymore).
Normal infantry tactics manuals usually assume larger units with supporting arms, carrying rifles/sub-machine guns with organic SAWs. Few of us really find us in that situation often.
I'll have a look; thanks very much for the recommendations! I appreciate it.
And yeah, my first responder volunteering is so far not quite *that* exciting. I imagine I'd be carrying water, medical gear, or part of a person more often than anything else... I just want to be able to do it sensibly in situations where you have hostile people as well as hostile nature.
Then you want the USAF Pararescue manual or the British Combat Rescue Manual. I'll try to dig up my copies. I think I have the PJ manual in electronic form.
That would be awesome. I'm happy to read them all -- I find the subject interesting in general -- but I'll read the most relevant ones first. [grin] My martial arts style does some bodyguarding, so I've read/worked a bit along those lines before. Still, I'm always happy to read what the pros have to say.
