Fair warning; these reviews are an unexpected love-fest. [grin] Everything was good.

Don't forget, his writings may have been ripped off in those descriptions you've read elsewhere.

You mostly know who as a crossword reference? Elie Wiesel? If so, yeah, it's possible. But it seems unfair that an original should be weakened by imitation, particularly when it's about one of the defining events of last century/something that killed millions of people.

I would like to read something about what he's done since as a follow-up. I mean, there's Google and Wikipedia, but something a little more in-depth than that. [grin]

Him and Pinter, back in 1993 when I was unemployed and doing crossword puzzles all of the time, they kept coming up for some reason. Elie, it's easy to see why, four letters and mostly vowels. He was usually referred to as "the author of Night," which I hadn't heard of.

I should really read it.

Did your books show up yet?

They hadn't when I left home for Seattle, but they may have shown up since. Cull hasn't mentioned it to me if they have, though. And thanks!

My only problem with the Ramachandran book was that he lost me a little at the end. Such that I never finished despite making it 90% of the way through! But apart from that, what a terrific and fascinating book.

(It is still elf porn and not great literature.)

There's a lot of Elf Porn going around these days. Seems to be making folks a lot of money :)

Aha! I thought that with the last Merry Gentry novel I read, the series had seemed in danger of actually developing a plot, but I had dared not hope, given how much the opposite seemed to be happening with the Anita Black series. That one (can't remember the name, but it was the one where she starts awakening some of the sidhe to memories of the deities they once were) also had some chill-inducing spiritual moments here and there, which were really unexpected in a series that up til then had basically been, well, as you say - elf porn. Now I'm going to have to read the new one.
