A newer book on counterinsurgency is "The U.S. Army/Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Field Manual" released this year. One of the authors was interviewed by John Stewart and it sounds really interesting.

I finished Fledgling recently as well and I am somewhat crushed that we can't find out more about that world. I was a little saddened by the somewhat quick wrap up at the end. I too love Octavia Butler.
