Daniel Abraham wrote another four-book fantasy series, the Long Price Quartet. It is very grim in places (massive TWs for terrible things happening to people's reproductive capabilities) but considerably more adventurous. It sold about two copies. It's one of my absolute favorite fantasy series of all time.
He wrote the Dagger and the Coin books after his good buddy George Martin explained how to take fewer chances and sell better, and indeed, it takes fewer chances and is selling better.
I looked at that one, but my library didn't have it in ebook format, so I went for "The Dagger and the Coin". I'll have to give it a go sometime if you think it's good and more experimental. I also prefer books that make me think. Thanks for the recommendation! Have you read the Expanse series? If so, did you like it?
