Summary: Jack comes to understand why people talk about falling in love.

When he was young, Jack never understood why it was called ‘falling’ in love, because to him, it always felt like flying. To fall was to fail, and how could love ever be seen as failing?
He knows now. He hasn’t fallen himself - he’s still flying strong. But he understands.
The Doctor, small and cold and looking as though he’s been in a fight or two, comes from nowhere one night. There’s no warning, no engine noises, no knock on the door. He steps out of the shadows of Jack’s office, coat hanging off one shoulder, face streaked and sombre.
He puts his arms around Jack, without saying a word. And, soundlessly, Jack holds him. The Doctor nuzzles his neck, and strokes his hair, and, finally, with the broken sigh of a man admitting defeat to his greatest enemy, he tugs Jack into a slow, tremulous, surrendering kiss.
