You're Superman. Get it together and stop being such a nincompoop.

Seriously, Lily. No need to freak out. I know you're invested in this story, but it's just writing. You can do writing.  Break it down.  Write out a list, if you're getting overwhelmed.  Breathe.  And then start.

Speaking of nincompoops: Conservation is up.  That's four this year, suckaahs.  And that's the entirety of my Smallville unfinished ( Read more... )

In the memory book I read, it had "how to write and remember an article / give a presentation". You summarize each main part by writing words, without even grammar or details ( ... )

Sounds a bit like the snowflake technique, which is similar in some ways to how I write. Although I basically alternate with high-level snowflake structure taking shape in my mind, and diving deep to fill in some little bit I'm inspired for, word for word, which then informs changes to the high-level structure. It's a really effective method for me--at least until I have to make myself sit down and write the last few scenes that I "know" have to be there from the structure but for whatever reason don't want to flow. There's always a few, grrr ( ... )

Oh! The snowflake one seems good, but also like too much work for me LOL. I think I'll take the "one sentence, one paragraph, one page" advice though. About the four pages... well, my fics are hardly ever even four pages long so I don't know about that...

Lol, yeah, the whole thing is a bit... elaborate, for me. And restrictive. I've never done a full snowflake as such - I don't often get the chance to say this, but I'm not actually *that* structured in the way I approach creative work! But it does capture some of the ways I naturally work. I also like his idea of writing one sentence--then one paragraph, etc. character summaries that tell the story from each character's point of view. It's helped me a few times with working out what was wrong with someone and why they either wouldn't wake up, or were fighting what I thought they should do, and fits with my approach much better than the traditional character creation sheet to fill in eye colour and birthday and so on.

I read your whole fic! Even though I don't know anything about Superman besides the basics, it didn't seem to hinder things haha.

:D Thanks! Glad you followed along well enough! Yeah, I think probably this one's the closest of my Smallville stories to standing without canon knowledge. Sending up the cliches of the whole genre makes it a little more universal. Glad you liked it!
