Oh, I'm so sorry. I lost my doggie last year, and when I come home I still expect to see her around (especially when cooking and dropping stuff on the floor). My grandmother passed away right before Christmas when I was a child as well, so it always makes the holidays bittersweet. In addition, we have to run to skip the CD/turn off the radio anytime that horrible "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" song comes on so my dad doesn't have to hear it.

I didn't really care for this year's special, but that wasn't my issue with it. Actually, I think sometimes as a feminist I get so caught up in disliking when the differences between the sexes are pointed out that I forget that there are some pretty substantial physical differences and that they're not negatives. So far, only women can gestate, carry, and bear children, and that it's pretty freaking amazing and not exactly easy-peasy. So in a weird way, it was nice to see it celebrated? It is special. But uh, it also didn't make any sense so that's more my problem with the plot. I think if ( ... )

Thank you. I've never heard that holiday song, it sounds utterly tacky and gross. Sometimes it feels like everything happens at Christmas, doesn't it?

I see what you mean about getting caught up in differences. I guess I agree that it was nice to see such a fundamental aspect of femininity celebrated, but after a series that revolved a lot around babies and pregnancy, I guess I'm kind of tired of having plots that link women to babies? Maybe I'm reading too much into it. It also really didn't make sense at all, surely there'd be more room in the Doctor's head for the tree-souls because he's, like, psychic.

The song is incredibly tacky and gross. It was an incredibly close contender for Worst Christmas Song Ever, but lost (rightfully) to one even worse. And yes, it does feel that way.

Between "Are you my mummy?", Amy's pregnancy and now this episode, I think I Moffat must just have mommy issues. And yes, 11 not being able to do didn't make any sense because in terms of being able to carry life, well, the Doctor's rather good at that whole regeneration thing, isn't he?

I had kind of thought I was ready- he's given us a few scares in the past- but nothing really compares to the actual moment. Losing pets totally sucks ): *hugs back*
