I've been doing some thinking in the wake of certain things: the ignorance of some Hetalia fans that we all saw over the weekend and and finishing Supernatural season 2 ( and the subsequent viewing of this), mainly, and how both of these things made me think about how I was actually ashamed to think of myself as a fan of things that sometimes raise ( Read more... )

That seems to be the upside of this whole debacle--people are coming out and refusing to feel ashamed for their fandom, acknowledging that those were just the actions of a few stupid people and not representative of the fandom or canon as a whole, and that is actually pretty cool. Because Hetalia fandom for the most part is awesome, and full of awesome fanworks and awesome learnings and, as you say, awesome people. So, *hugs* Right back atcha, babe.

The most heartening thing about this was how many people stood up and said 'no, this will not do, this is not who we are'. Instead of confirming people's worst fears about Hetalia fandom, it actually proved all of our detractors wrong!

*returns hugs* ♥

The Hetalia thing was that over Passover some Germany cosplayers at a convention were photographed doing the Nazi salute. Pictures hit the internet and the proverbial ordure hit the fan. One of the people involved has since apologised, but there was (understandably) a lot of anger about it.

Regarding the fan fiction... That is something I actually have less problems with, because I've read a lot of brilliant, well-written fan fiction. Also, Charlotte Bronte started out basically writing Duke of Wellington AU fanfic with her brother, so frankly we're in good company.

Aah what did I just watch D:
