I didn't realize that they froze organs between the donor and recipient. Doesn't seem like it would function properly after freezing...

In one of my classes we were talking about organ transplants, and quite often recipients will take on minor traits from the donor that they aren't even aware of until they meet the donor's family. It was a mind/body/soul discussion, and my class basically decided that either part of the soul remains with the organ, or memory is stored in cells outside of the brain. It was an interesting discussion, kinda gave me the chills.

I have always been skeptical of such findings, but nonetheless, they are exactly the reason I am not an organ donor.

Strange reason to not be an organ donor. If you believe the soul thing, then I would think it would be comforting for those who love you to know that your death resulted in something positive. If it's the cell memory thing, then, eh, who cares? I'm not criticizing you for not being an organ donor - I don't even know you so I don't mean to offend you, and obviously many people out there feel the same way you do. But I know some people who've had transplants and couldn't imagine denying them of that. I'm an organ donor...I just figure there's no point in me keeping them if I can't use them. If somebody else happens to catch a piece of my personality or soul or memory, I think that's kind of cool.

No offence taken. I will try to explain. There are some things one simply does not want other people using. Perhaps its your deodorant, towel, or car. My body is one of those things. It is just creepy to think about parts of me inside other people, especially if those parts of me actually bestow my habits or quirks on them.

Maybe others would be comforted, but I personally would not be. Continuing on as a kidney that gives someone your habits is very similar in my mind to living in a vegitative state.

I saw the same bit about keeping the heart pumping except it was on CNN so I actually got to SEE the heart pumping away in a cooler-esque box. I thought it was kinda cool.
