RYOTARO DOJIMA, PARTNERED WEAPON ☇ GRENADE LAUNCHER
...Where does he even begin? Back then, Dojima had been just another one of the many responding to him on the network during the madness that came with arriving in a sandstorm. They had talked, bonded over cigarettes, decided to meet over drinks. Not much had been said, and that had suited them just fine. From then on, it had been easy - ridiculously easy - to stay on the safe side of things. Because of that, they had both believed that it wouldn't change, even after they partnered up. They did so out of need, after all: Roy needed a Weapon, Dojima needed a Meister, and both of them wanted to fight.
He hadn't planned on getting attached. He hadn't counted on the possibility that he wouldn't be able to let things rest or avoid asking questions, or wondering. He hadn't wanted to repeat the past. Overall, caring had not been part of the equation, but it had forced its way into things anyway, and now both he and his Weapon have crossed lines that they hadn't ever intended on crossing. The news over how things ended up for them ten years into the future made things incredibly complicated, along with a later failure to resonate that left Roy in the hospital for a week. Radio silence on both of their parts then led to what Roy had thought would be the end of their relationship.
Now, however, Dojima has kissed him. Twice. And asked him to stay. He had thought that it was a fluke, at first, but his Weapon has consistently gone out of his way to reassure him that they have something and he's not about to let Roy go since then.
Roy really isn't sure what to make of it and how to respond, and he's deathly afraid of hoping. Still, he can't exactly deny what he feels either, or how Dojima makes him feel. Maybe, just maybe...
NANAKO DOJIMA, MEISTER (★) ☇ MOE SOUL
Quiet kid; doesn't give anyone any trouble. She really shouldn't be in Death City at all.
Since she is, though, Roy has taken it upon herself to watch over her and guide her to the best of his abilities. He can't help but feel like he's suddenly become a father, but maybe it couldn't have been helped - he does feel extra responsible for her because she's Dojima's one and one daughter, after all, and he and Dojima ARE partners. Still, there are times when Roy doesn't quite know what he's doing with Nanako: he has no clue how to handle kids, and admittedly, odd images of Elicia Hughes come to mind when he sees her. Even if Nanako and Hughes' daughter are worlds apart, though that isn't going to stop him from watching out for her, in his own way.
It took a bit of time, but Nanako eventually started warming up to Roy, and, following Dojima's untimely disappearance for nearly a week, the two inevitably became close. The girl has even trusted him with things that she wouldn't tell her father, like her desire to find a Weapon (an activity that Roy approved of). All in all, she is family to him now, and he'll guard her with his life.
SOUJI SETA, MEISTER (★) ☇ CALMING WAVELENGTH
Souji struck Roy as a sensible, reliable kid on the get-go - his manner told him that the boy knew what it's like to be conscripted to fight a war that he shouldn't have had to fight, which did strike a few chords. He was uncomfortable around Souji at first, though, and for good reason - the boy's serious beyond his years, and also happens to be Dojima's nephew. Nevertheless, they've managed to connect on various levels both during Souji's initial period in Death City and at present, and the distance between them has lessened with considerable speed.
Roy is surprised and honored at the fact that Souji considers him part of the family, and is grateful, in spite of everything, for the way the boy's been trying to go out of the way for him and fix things between him and Dojima. He's come to believe that Souji is an old soul: he's the sort who speaks straight, answers clearly and doesn't just mouth off whatever happens to be at the top of his head. Perhaps it's to be expected... the things Souji has seen have aged him. Still, someone as reliable as Souji needs people to watch his back.
It goes without saying, then, that Roy is going to look out for this one as much as he can.
Things currently feel weird, now that the cat's out of the bag and Souji's aware that his uncle and Roy might be going places in the future. Roy's treading carefully, of course, because he doesn't want to make things difficult between them. Souji has also had it rough recently, which also contributes to Roy's caution. The boy's already been through enough.
JULES DE FERRIER, WEAPON ☇ BIRCH SWITCH
Nanako's Weapon. Roy hasn't gotten around to really talking to Jules at length before, but he has seen the boy on the network, and heard quite a bit about him from Raidou, one of his old associates, before Raidou was returned home. They've also been able to talk in person more often these days, by merit of the fact that they're now living under the same roof. Overall, he does not seem like a bad guy. Furthermore, Nanako appears to like him, and whoever Nanako likes, Roy tends to approve of.
Only time will tell, though. Nanako and Jules haven't gone on a mission yet, or been placed in a position where they had no other choice but to fight. Roy hopes that when that happens, Jules will push through and do all that he can to protect him and his Meister. He plans on helping them along, of course, by giving them both some lessons in self-defense.
