     Death knew this.

It had been an annoying game, especially knowing that he was likely being toyed with. For every time that Xemnas finally came up on his radar, he was always gone the moment Death stepped back into Nautilus' time.

Not this time, however. Perhaps the Nobody had also grown tired of this game, as there was none as persistent as Death.

The moment the Grim Reaper had gotten a bead on the Nobody's whereabouts, he sent word and Binky to Rex, and the horse would speed him to where Death would be, and where Xemnas awaited. The seven foot tall skeleton appeared, a sudden mar of black, robes like shadows made tangible. His scythe was nowhere to be seen, but a flash of silver glinted now and then from between the robes, his second favorite weapon slung at his side in its scabbard.

He made no approach towards the silver-haired figure, but looked to Rex first.

Rex had waited, although not patiently. It had been several days since Xemnas' betrayal had come to light and the young EVO was more than ready to face the Nobody, to question him, to demand answers...to implore him to change his mind. He'd sat waiting on the Medbay roof, his collection of pendants grasped in his right hand, thumb pressed into the indent of newest piece to join the rest. And as soon as the familiar steed had shown up, Rex had known ( ... )

The senses sharpened as the Nobody closed his eyes, letting darkness overtake his sight.

At first, there was nothing out of the ordinary.

Then there was one strong presence standing behind him, one that had been keeping track of him ever since he jumped and disappeared from the edge of the tower balcony. And, after some time had passed, another made its appearance next to the first. Three arrivals, if one included the horse, making it four in total. But the three who could speak were now in place, moving forward now that they all had gathered here.

In his stillness, it almost seemed like Rex was not heard. Several beats of silence followed, broken by a simple response.

"Has it been that long? From what I can recall...we have not spoken to each other in a while."

Xemnas kept his back toward the pair.

"Perhaps we do need to catch up - see how things have been going. Sometimes it is too easy to lose track of what one does in times like these."

Binky pawed the ground with a hoof, the faintest of jingles sounding from his silver metal of his tack as he glanced towards Death, ears swiveling. And then, with his rider disembarked, as though from an unspoken word from the Reaper, the horse turned and then trotted away.

Death carefully turned his gaze back towards Xemnas once Rex had broken the silence between the three of them. He folded his arms, appearing very much a black pillar where he stood.

SUCH CASUAL WORDS DO NOT BECOME YOU. YET IT IS POINTLESS TO POINT OUT THE THINGS YOU HAVE DONE WHEN YOU ARE WELL AWARE OF IT, AND YOU KNOW TO EXPECT THAT SUCH ACTIONS HAVE BROUGHT THE IRE OF MANY.

He gestured idly with a hand, bony digits uncurling gracefully as though mimicking one of those movements Xemnas seemed to be so fond of.

BUT YES, BY ALL MEANS. THERE IS MUCH TO BE DISCUSSED.

With that, he nodded towards Rex. It was the boy who had wanted to speak to the Nobody, after all.

Rex listened as Binky departed, never turning away to watch the horse take his leave. Rather, his eyes remained on Xemnas the entire time. He didn't want to think that the Nobody had become entirely untrustworthy by this point, but he couldn't afford to take chances.

"You're right that it has been a while, Xemnas," Rex replied, "But Death's right, too. This isn't a social call. You know what you've done and so do we, so let's cut straight to the chase.

"I want to know why. Why turn on the city and the rest of us? What's the point of helping something as terrible and evil as the Dark Aeon?"

In his own mind, Rex couldn't see there being an reasonable explanation. Still, he almost feared to know the answer.
