The place looked nothing like his own personal little hell had been, but then, he supposed, it would be different for everyone. His own plague was not Sqwydd's, and whatever haunted the boy, it had something to do with a place that looked like this. It didn't matter though. He had somewhere to be, and this was just getting in his way.

Rex takes in their surroundings with narrowed eyes, noting the smell of decay and the dim lighting. Having already dealt with his own Shadow, he knows this won't be a cake walk. Then the nearby wall splits and the door across the way closes, all of it reforming so that it looks as though it had always been exactly like that.

Of course. Because dealing with a Shadow by itself wasn't going to be enough of a mess.

"He's made it so that the entire place is gonna keep rearranging itself. Once we go in, finding our way back out will be tough, since we can't backtrack if we go the wrong way," Rex noted with a frown. "We'd better stick together. If we get separated? Everyone, including Sqwydd, is probably gonna end up screwed."

Crawford looked around as everything shifted and settled around them, clutching the straps to his backpack with one hand. His other hand twitched slightly as a strange feeling passed through it. He closed his fingers into a fist, but the feeling didn't pass. It was as though he were missing something, or holding something back. A strange absence that he couldn't quite place.

He glanced apprehensively at Blurr, feeling a little unsettled. He tried to push it down, but it was difficult to hide.

"If it's gonna keep shifting around, how're we gonna find him in this?"

"Good question." Rex took a couple steps toward one of the hall entrances, stopping just shy of the threshold.

Bending up a flashlight, he shined the beam down the length of the corridor, but the light ran into a wall a short distance down, keeping him from seeing exactly which way the hall turned. "Can't even see which way this one goes. Right or left? Maybe both?"

Rex caused the flashlight to vanish in an instant as he turned back to his companions. "Blurr, I dunno if you've got infrared sensors or...something like that we can use to track heat or life signals or whatever. But if you do, now would be a great time to use 'em. Other than that, I think it's time I put my beast mode to good use. I know what Sqwydd smells like. I might be able to at least tell which general direction we should go using scent alone."

"Been using them for a while. These creatures don't show up on my infrared at all. It's like they're part of the background noise. I have something of an equivalent to your sonar systems, but it'll only work on the first thing it runs into ( ... )
