[The Joker walks in, sort of hidden from sight so he can wait for an opportune moment to come out to play. He looks incredibly amused, since this is the first chance he's gotten in Nautilus to mess around and make some "friends." He just laughs quietly to himself while watching this other guy who invited him to "spar."]

[There are far better ways to meet new people, but that hadn't been Edward's priority when he'd spoken up on the network. It's only after getting response from others that were mostly new to him that the boy decides it hadn't been a completely bad idea, even if his brother had fussed about it at first.]

...wonder if anyone's coming after all...

[He looks around after a moment before giving a sigh, and after flicking his braid off a shoulder, he folds his arms.]

[Tally finds the arena, no problem. She might have more trouble finding Ed, though. Considering how short he is.

Oh wait, there he is. She--okay there's no other word for it--swaggers on over and folds her arms.]

Hey there.

[She resists adding some sort of "short" epithet. If only he'd been born into her world. They would have tried lengthening his femurs during the operation to add a couple of inches. Maybe even added an extra vertebra.]

[He is NOT short.

Oh, but he's been waiting for you, Tally. He gets this awful grin on his face as he sees her, twitching just a touch at the edges upon her greeting.]

Hey yourself. Don't expect me to go easy on you just because you're a girl.

[Oh man, she remembers having this conversation with Jefferson, and that was two goddamn years ago.]

Okay, so you're from one of those time periods where women are property and can't hold their own, right?

[She uncrosses her arms. It's taking a lot of willpower not to just toss him right over the arena wall here and now. That would show him.]

[Edward looks at her flatly.]

Oh please- nothing like that. I'm not sexist- I'll dish out the same whether you're a guy or a girl. There are plenty of strong women back home and in the military. I'm just saying you better give me all you got, and I'll do the same.

     Hm? Oh, that was her. Edward waved back, realizing he hadn't caught her name. Well, there was time for that, wasn't there?

"Hey! Glad you could make it," he said, smirking faintly. "Don't think we introduced ourselves yet. Name's Edward Elric."

     The curtsy kind of threw him off; wow, people still do that? Edward gave a nod in her direction, nevertheless. "Nice meeting you too, Rukia."

Her question drew a slight grin, and he gave a shrug. "I'm pretty flexible with either or," he said. "I'll leave preferences up to you." He was used to getting into battles where his opponents didn't care so much what they used against him so long as they thought they could take him down. Besides, he was interested to see how people around the city here fought.
