Alive was probably too strong of a word for what he was now. If he were still capable of rational, coherent thought, he'd have remembered what had happened with horror and revulsion. He'd have been worried for Soren. For Kyle and Aya.

Instead, he just dragged himself down the street, wavering on a shattered ankle. The bite wounds had long since stopped bleeding. Animal instinct registered there was a threat this way. Others had fallen. Others had dropped. He should avoid it.

But that all-consuming hunger was driving the shell forward, following the sound of the rifle shots.

Kyle kept an alert lookout through his scope, not sure if he would find anyone out there except zombies slowly crawling their way over to the building, trying to make their way up ( ... )

The head came up, blue eyes - once sharp and deadly, now clouded and blurred - snapped toward the sudden cessation of sound. The building was still, even as its eyes raked over its front facade. Every muscle froze, standing stock still in the street, tense, waiting.

Nothing happened.

The animal - the creature - did the only logical thing. It darted sideways, into an alley. Self-preservation warred with the need for feeding. There was nothing left of the man he'd been. Just the animal.

And it was taking the opportunity to stalk the man who had once been his friend, advancing closer to Kyle's building through the back streets. It would worry about getting to the man soon enough. Now, it only wanted to get closer. Every so often, it darted out of cover, peered at the building, and then slipped away again.

"Shit," he brought the gun down, attempting to find where the zombie (friend wasn't the right word for him, as any part that was left of his friend was long gone) had run off to. He removed the bear head, placing it next to him, as he kept both his ears and eyes alert. I should have taken the shot.

Making sure to keep the gun close to him, the man quickly covered the edges of the building, attempting to find the creature in the depths below him. The creature had noticed him, looked at him, and didn't seem to recognize him at all; this left a feeling of dread in the pit of Kyle's stomach.

He would have to kill the empty shell that was Garrus Vakarian's body before it got to him first.

Aya hadn’t wasted much of her time trying to look for Kyle, mostly on account of the sheer futility of it. The city was a big place that now had its newly undead demographics to make use of the empty space. Unless if you were keeping contact with the network or just happened to be lucky, you didn’t exactly have a snowball’s chance in Hell with actually finding someone in the midst of this chaos.
  they infest the subways stalking
Good thing this wasn’t the first time Aya had ever been separated from Kyle like this before, otherwise she might have found herself more concerned for his well-being. As things usually went, she pressed on, but not for the sake of her own survival.
their shrieks echo in the dark tunnels
She didn’t know what kept her going anymore. Madness was the only way to describe it. Her blood boiled. Her thoughts raced. Her brain running at a million miles per hour and nothing ever quite making any sense.
their legs crawl and their mouths clickclickclick
Insane.
