He hoped to Zach that this steel pipe was blunt enough to get the job done.
York took a swing at the large zombie's head but it wasn't enough to bring it down completely.

It stumbled from the blows, shaking its head and making retching sounds before spewing more acid.

The portly zombie advanced towards York, trying to grab him by the shoulders. Before it got any closer, York made one hard swing at its head, causing it to collapse on the ground.
He turned his attention towards the boy. "Are you alright?" he asked.

Making his way through the streets, he tried to find the familiar red door that he had spotted hours earlier. At least then, he could possibly find something to eat, and find more firepower (he only had so many ammo cartridges left - especially now that he parted from Red Mist), when in the distance, he saw someone, or something, sprinting.
Kyle narrowed his eyes (which really didn't help as his face was obscured by the bear suit), trying to determine who it was. And of course, he recognized the guy off the bat (most of it was from the fact he actually went to the movies with this guy while high and then drunkenly talked about second chances in films weeks later not a very good first two ( ... )

Hearing his name being called out was much of a relief. The voice sounded quite familiar too. He stopped to turn around to see... a blue figure in the distance. He returned the hand motion and began to walk closer towards the alleyway where he can see that this person was wearing a bear suit. How curious.
It finally clicked with York that this was the same guy he had met at the movies with. Looks like when it comes to meeting people on a face-to-face basis in Nautilus, York had a knack for meeting them in very awkward situations.

But the groans continued to echo through the streets.
"We should find higher ground," his eyes searched for any sort of fire escape ladder to a building. "That way we'll be able to see where they are."

their population overwhelming
Not to mention Aya’s closeted, manic behavior was also more or less volatile. Time had decided to slip in and out; she couldn’t tell whether or not if she’d been living this for a few days, weeks, or years. Sometimes it felt as though she’d been doing this for lifetimes, and then realized that, on some level of reality, she probably had.
killing them all
Simultaneously both here and there.
this is all there is for herIt was bad enough that Aya showed the obvious signs of not taking closer care of herself; not like she should have. Blood-soaked as she was, her leather jacket worn out and her clothes stained, none of it concealed her palpable lack of sleep/rest, or the fact that she had been waging a nonstop war with these creatures since the week began as though ( ... )

His hearting was beating fast. Usually York wouldn't mind this but lack of calories had sent a pang to his stomach. Only making his trudge along the zombie infested city more difficult.
He looked like a hot mess. Once a three piece suit now missing a jacket and tie thanks to one encounter where he was nearly caught on fire. His shirt and pants stained with blood and dirt.
Then sounds of gunfire made its' way to his ears. 'Zach someone else is nearby.' As far as direction goes, those shots were good enough of a lead for him to walk towards.

they gather underground in the subways in the darkness
Of course, using guns meant loud noises, too, which had a tendency to call unwanted attention. And the way Aya fought, she attracted many, leaving behind mountains of undead corpses along the streets wherever she went. The small fries were easy, but dealing with some of the bigger, faster ones, that was a different story.
their mandibles clicking their jaws locked on flesh biting
Not being able to Bend the blood and dirt off her clothes was bad enough, and Aya really hadn’t had time to find a change of clothes. As though that kind of thing was on her mind right now...
leaving venomous wounds
All she saw was what was ahead of her.

He certainly was not alone in this. Zach was with him. They've danced with an almost similar phenomena at Greenvale. Not exactly the flesh-hungry creatures but they were something you didn't see everyday. Still, he had a sense of comfort with Zach by his side.
The sound of manic laughter... Now that's new.
"Zach did you hear that?" He whispered.
"Either someone has completely lost it or we're about to meet someone 'new'. Let's not be reckless, alright?"
Now he was even more curious. Walking further down, York was beginning to see a familiar figure.
