The man's head jerked up and he scrambled to his feet, backing away. He hadn't heard Lelouch coming. He would have simply run, but there was something frustratingly familiar about this man, too. Everything was. He just couldn't place it.

"Ah..." He shook his head.

No... what was his name? Did he have one? He tries his hardest to remember... tried and tried. Something mad him twitch- ah. A name. The first name he thought of.

"Tom..." He struggled with it-

"Tom Latta." That... must be his name.

The Britannian only received a blank stare from Starscream. He slowly shook his head. The girl from before had told him that he once lived here. That he didn't remember... but ironically he wasn't going to lie and say he knew this person.

It was frustrating- like an old friend that you haven't seen for years and when you meet them again, you just can't remember their name. Only the name didn't help him remember anything. Ever knowing him...

He face drew into a dejected frown.

Bumblebee had left for the second time; Prowl was gone too, both without word or hint, and Sari could barely take it anymore. It just wasn't fair: she could wait and wait for Starscream to come back, but not when other bits of her family were disappearing. Sari always had had a problem with letting go and accepting the ways of Nautilus, but it was reaching the point where she just wanted to emotionally shut down altogether ( ... )

He'd been lost in his wondering- wondering about everything. No matter how hard he tried, nothing ever seemed to click here. Until there was a small tap against his toe. He glanced down...

A small rock resting against his toes.

Do rocks moved on their own? He wasn't sure what was normal... he had no standards for what was, anyway.

"Hello..." He tried cautiously. The rock of course, didn't answer. After a moment he picked it up, weighing it in his hand, and then looking around for a source. Movement a ways off caught his eye, and he squinted to see. Another person. A smaller person. The rock must have been her's. She must have lost it-

It was the first conclusion he'd come to in a while, aside from the fact that cuts hurt and cats are nice.

He stumbled to his feet and ran awkwardly, the cuts under the bandages stung, but he was far more interested in catching up. When he did he was out of breath, running up behind her, extending his arm over her head, and dropping the rock in front of her.

He looked cautiously proud of

Sari, now with her communicator out, briefly conversed with Tally over the status of Starscream. So he was...here, at least. And stuck without his memories, and hurt. But he was here, and maybe she could find him, bring him back, take care of him, and-

A rock suddenly dropped into view, and Sari paused, staring down at it. She bent down, picking up her rock, and staring at it, turned it over in her hands. It had broken her out of her dark thoughts, at least.

She turned around, expecting...well, even she didn't know what she was expecting. Skywarp, maybe, or Wykkyd.

Certainly not Starscream.

Staring back at him, stunned, a hard lump began to form in Sari's throat. Tears welled up, and she dropped the rock.

He wouldn't remember her; she knew that.

But it still didn't stop her from wrapping her arms tight around Starscream's chest and breaking down, sobbing into him.

The only thing that could describe his reaction was 'dull surprise'. Well. He'd brought her rock back... it must have meant something to her. The way she was clutching him so tight made him wince. He was still sore, the gash in his side not healed yet.

He didn't seem to mind- it was so oddly familiar. For a moment he felt something. Belonging. The Seeker awkwardly lifted a hand and placed it on her head. She was crying... was she hurt? Maybe he should do something. Do what? How? Could he help?

He knelt down... maybe he should just let her do this.

He arms hesitantly wrapped around her in a limp hug.

"Mmmh..."

It's only when the stranger is alone again that it begins.

The surface of the bubble over the field of stars warps, ripples, and seems to open, like a soap bubble popping in slow-motion, layers peeling back and away, and then there is a rush of thoughts of stars of -

nothing. Was it real at all? Everything seems the same. Normal.

Saix reminded him of what it was like. How one could be solid. Real. Not human, never human, he'd always been a spirit (or had he? How many dreams had he dreamed before he'd finally woken up?) But he still prefers the ebb-and-flow, the change that has become him.

It makes sense to him.

The world flickers. The man stands behind the stranger, back to back, wearing a blue pinstripe suit and dark blue comedia-del-arte mask, the long nose making him look almost bird-like.

When did he get here ( ... )

His mind flutters, and the pain attempts to resurface, but there is something serene about the voice. The man. It doesn't stop him from startling to his aching feet and backing away slowly.

Something heaves in his chest- something missing. A void where something used to be, just like his mind. (Not a void there, just hidden things. Locked boxes.)

Starscream squints at the man. He knew this man.

The name comes to him naturally, no struggling this time.

They've met before.

"Nautilus." He mouths the words with barely any sound. He trusts it, he knows. An old friend.

Dear notifs: I'd tell you to DIAF, except you seem to have done so already B| thewake_mods March 26 2010, 00:15:57 UTC
His lips curl into a smile; and the light seems to intensify around them, colors growing more vivid.

So you're still mine wanderer son even if almost dreaming you walk."

He walks in slow circles, but which direction and how far away he is becomes impossible to determine. The air seems thick, heavy; fluid.

Why?

Do you know? BECAUSE I DON'T And do you want to know? I still have use for you so interesting, your story's become and you've got a DESTINY you know..."

It made absolutely no sense, but it was somehow easy to accept. Easier than being told he had a family, friends in a place he had never seen before.

Destiny? What was his destiny? His story?

He dropped his head, hands covering his face.

"I don't know who I am. I'm lost." More lost than ever before. The feeling of helplessness stung in his mind, his chest swelling with frustration.

"Why is this happening to me?"
