Regardless of where you post, it's good to keep a record. Make sure you take backups (I still need to do this for Livejournal). I have dreamwidth invite codes but my dreamwidth read page is even less updatey than Livejournal. Shame.
Yeah, I like the comments threading on LJ too, but realistically more people are gonna be reading me from outside LJ than within, so it made more sense this way. I do miss the old days of a billion comments on my entries though!
Ooh yeah, I need to run lj-archive too, haven't done that in at least a couple of years!
