Ten minutes ago I pulled my computer out of the closet under our stairs, as that was the last place we used it. Huddled in there with three kitties and pillows galore, we watched as the red took over North Alabama and our NOAA weather radio beeped and robotically told us over and over "tornado emergency". Those words were completely new to me

I was in Miami after Andrew. (I was actually on vacation in GA when it hit.) Luckily our damage was minor compared to so many others. But two weeks with no power for us. Your comment "BBQing, and enjoying every minute of daylight. It was nice to have no obligations online and to be able to unplug from the world for a while" made me smile. My ex-husband's cousin (who lived with us) was a hunter and had a freezer FULL of meat we had to go through before it spoiled. So yeah, lots of relaxing, good food, time off work, it really did feel like a really surreal vacation.

oh man, hurricanes would be so crazy. it's good you can usually prep for them, but adding so much water to the element of surprise gives me shivers. there was some flash flooding around our area, but nothing too crazy.
