Russell Erskine Hotel

Yesterday we went to pick up some records from a gentleman, Dan, that lives in the Russell Erskine Apartments. He gave us a wonderful tour of the building. It was built and opened as a hotel, but has since been turned into apartments. When Dan showed us the Ballroom, he told us that his prom was held in that room in 1941. why thank you!

dan told us that someone in new york bought the building and three years ago sent a group down here to restore it. they (only lol) intended to spend 7 million, and ended up spending close to 11 million.

the entire basement floor is now apartments, laundry, and lounge areas (very nice, i might add) where once it was the parking garage.

i'm so obsessed with historic buildings, i'm starting to scare myself. oh well!

That's nothing to be scared over. I love the beauty in them as well. More often then not I photograph the places that have fallen on hard times and been abandoned or misplaced. Growing up in the Louisville area, I was spoilt on the old brownstones and brick Victorians that were everywhere in that community. Now many are being restored and lovingly cared for.

i knowwwww! it's mostly 65 and over, so i wonder if there's any sort of restriction...i felt that to be an odd thing to ask our friend though haha.

but yeah, his apartment was very nice...even had the original black and white hexagonal tile :)

dunno if he still lives there, but a few years ago i got to see Dancin Dave's apartment there. it was very posh inside the building. i'm glad someone took the time and effort to restore it!

haha i still see him dancing around star market, and in the direction of that building with his groceries, so i'm gonna just guess that he still does.

and our friend dan informed us it was a 10 million dollar reno...whew

geez, i had no clue it was so amazing inside!
i always see old people sitting outside. i'm glad it's apartments and not another empty building.

ya it's awesome...there's like a mini movie theatre in the basement with super plush chairs and a big, flat screen
