Happy & Sad

Okay, so I personally have some major objections to today's construction of marriage, but this makes me go 'awww'.

My smile freezes a little when I read "the sixth in the nation to recognize same-sex marriage." It freezes a little more when Wiki tells me that "same-sex marriages are not recognized federally."

And it makes me wonder...

Why can't all ( Read more... )

linky link, people are also pretty, queer as me, what the frakkin' frak?

Because America is still 100 years behind western Europe religiously morally.

True, I guess, but don't idolize western Europe too much. Same-sex marriage is in Sweden, Norway, Spain, Belgium, and Netherlands. Other countries have civil/registered partnership which is, I know, better than nothing, but "better than nothing" is still recognizable worse than the marriage. :(

Haha, no country is perfect. I mean America is more relious then those countries so it's going to take us longer to get there.

Oh, it better not be.

I'd like to believe that we will overcome all the prejudices & injustice, but I'm not sure if mankind is capable of such a state.

Religion is really a big factor. When churches raise million of dollars to campaign against gay marriage, voters are influenced. I think it's much more likely in the US to have the courts decide to allow gay marriage, instead of the voters.

I've read that in Ireland, where about 95% of people are religious, divorce was permitted in 1995 and abortion is still illegal.

On the other hand, my country with "one of the least religious populations in the world" has no excuse for its fucked up politics. We have registered partnership since 2007(?). How generous. Except not really.

I think it's much more likely in the US to have the courts decide to allow gay marriage, instead of the voters.

That's why I agree with this.

It's so stupid and incredible the level of hatred and ignorance of people not only here but all over. I had a wonderful gay brother, he was an artist and never hurt anyone or bothered people. Also have a sister that was married, her husband was an alcoholic and physically abused her - yet that marriage was "the acceptable and right thing" while any relationship that my brother had was always "the wrong thing" - just goes to show how utterly stupid people can be.

I'm sorry. I try to find a sense in all of this, in this world, and sometimes I just can't.

Hopefully one day we'll make some progress. Oh, how I hope so...
