It wasn't often that Chloe came to the cafeteria. In fact, it was actually rather rare. She usually had prepared her own meal (and usually Evie's as well) beforehand herself if she had time... and since she didn't really have anyone to be with or anything to do outside of classes, she tended to have a lot of free time. However today had been different. She had stayed up late doing homework and as a result did not have time to make anything before class. If she hadn't have gone for that run and lost track of time, she would have been able to but ( ... )

He met her gaze easily, not quite comprehending how chilly it really was as he took the opportunity to get a closer look at the mysterious girl. He didn't think he'd ever seen that expression on a person's face before! It was almost... a non-expression. There was simply nothing there to clue him in on what she was feeling, and rather than be scared off it only sparked his curiosity more ( ... )

Charles was trying to gauge her expression, as if that would help him relate to her better. Oh, how wrong he was. Chloe was rather adept at hiding any and all emotions when she wanted to... especially around overly friendly folks like Charles.

"..."

Even if she had WANTED to say anything, getting a word in edgewise was nigh impossible with the way Charles' lips were rapidly flapping. Chloe inwardly groaned; this must be how Theo felt. All the time. Every moment of every day. With a sigh, Chloe simply... let the boy finish. She looked directly into his face and, after a few moments, opened her mouth to say something.

"... Yes."

She then continued to eat her lunch. The meal was almost done anyhow... she was a fast eater while being neat and polite at the same time. She chose to ignore everything but the one question, averting her gaze again. She could play nice. It wasn't like she was telling him to buzz off. Not verbally anyway.

Her monosyllabic response earned her a slow blink. Charlie stared owlishly at Chloe for a moment, then drummed his fingers on the table idly. "Er, right." He nodded, as if in confirmation of what she had already agreed to. Had he perhaps offended her? Already? He was certainly not off to a good start, that was for sure. Although he remembered that she'd been reserved at the meeting, he hadn't known quite how far her reticence went. Charlie made a soft 'hmm'ing noise as he reached for something to ask her before settling on something fairly simple.

"You're roommates with Evie, aren't you? I wonder, were you two together when you ran into the demons for the first time?" He paused, then tilted his head at her almost understandingly. "Are you worried about her?"
