A book bag came raining down from the ceiling. Or so it seemed until Lester looked up and observed that there was no hole in the ceiling. And then he looked over and saw a face that probably would have been more familiar if it weren't so early in the morning. Oh, right.

"Hello Emi~," he said with something that looked like it could become a smile at some point in time. "Do you know what we're doing in class today?"

It was a legitimate question! At least, for someone who had been trying to remember what this one line in that one song that was stuck in his head was.

"Lester," she hissed with a bitter look on her face. Or, well, more bitter than usual. She sat down in the seat and crossed her arms with a hmpf. "No, the teacher hasn't told us yet." She wasn't going to bother filling him in on the 'we're lab partners now' bit. He would certainly figure that out on his own as the class progressed. If the teacher chose that week to assign partners then she must have had some sort of small project in store for them. Oh, how she hoped it would be something simple. The sooner she could finish and move on to the next class the better.

Emi pulled her bag open to look for some paper and a pen, but she eyed Lester suspiciously for a moment. It had only been a week, but she had to know. "You've been keeping up with this class so far, right?"

"Oh. Oh I see." He nodded and returned to looking towards the front of the classroom. Except he wasn't really looking at anything in particular. Oooh, did that light just flicker? He wondered if it was about to go out.

He turned back at her and started to make a kind of prolonged "ummmmm" sound. "Yeah~, I think so." If coming to class every day and doing the assignments (whether he understood them or not) counted as keeping up, that was. He noticed Emi rummaging around for something and proceeded to pull out some rather colorful pens from his pocket.

"Do you need one?"

Though Lester's comment could have been reassuring to some, it certainly wasn't to Emi. She shook her head. "Just thinking that you have been isn't really good enough." Buuut as clearly not happy as she was, she found herself considering his pen offer more seriously. She knew she had a pen tossed in her bag somewhere, but it there was anything he had it was nice pens. Her head tilted slightly, sizing the pens up as if they were livestock at the market.

"Give me a blue one. Not the dark blue one, but not the one so light you can't read it."
