The entire situation was simply too suspicious.

While there was nothing odd about the occasional bad driver, these recent events had happened near-consecutively. Not even a drunk would do the same thing so often in just a few weeks. She briefly wondered if it was simply that overactive, sleep-deprived imagination of hers, but with the recent events-- and the fact that those were not a dream-- it seemed unlikely. So, then, was it simply multiple stupid, drunk men making stupid, drunk mistakes as they do, or-- something else?

Edith also wondered what made any of these recent goings-on any of her business, as it didn't relate to the school aside from being a distraction to the students, but that really was a silly thought. She was curious, as people often are, and as she often is, and that was why she was out today, listening in on whatever conversations she could. As a woman, and a young one at that, she did need to appear careful, but she never did have a very big eye for dangerous situations. What were all of these people to someone ( ... )

Millie, on the other hand, knew very little about the mysterious deaths and cared even less. Maybe she'd somehow managed to avoid the rumors. Maybe she just chose not to think too much about them. Or maybe she was just too sensible to take them very seriously ( ... )

Of course things wouldn't go smoothly. He'd almost been past the toy store when that… frilly pastel monstrosity was paraded in front of his face, and the far-too-old girl in it was yelling in his direction. Theo took a step back, eyebrows furrowed, noticing that the girl's finger followed him perfectly. She looked almost familiar, possibly - but the oversized child's church-going dress was throwing him off, because what young lady would even think of wearing that past the age of ten ( ... )
