Just a little note -- the Wife in this piece is transgender, in the midst of her transition from male to female. Relevant, because there's mention of genitals/sexual acts.

Yes, this is nonfiction. You’re not sure what’s changed between today and yesterday. Instead of wanting to leave the house and never come back, you’re laughing and smiling, ( Read more... )

What a wonderful exploration of the transgender topic, making it so personal. It seems to have gotten lost in the political, lately. It's good to see the humanity in it again, instead of arguments about which bathroom to use.

It has gotten a bit lost in the political because so many people want to police transgender bodies instead of just letting them live. Evelyn isn't necessarily my favorite person, but she is still human and I try my best to treat her that way. Even though she drives me fucking insane.

It's funny, considering that this was damn near four years ago, at this point. Just how much my view of her has changed.

That's what I was thinking! This was a bit harder to read knowing what she's put you through. But I suppose memories are a bit like that.

Memories ARE a bit like that. The fun part with this moment in my life is that I had purposely decided I was going to reclaim what our last instance of sex would be like, because the time before this wasn't exactly pleasant. I wanted this to be a happy memory, in spite of everything.

It's more bitter than sweet, now, though. But I feel better that our last sexual experience with each other wasn't rape, which is what it would've been, otherwise.

So many of the problems within our human family are simply due to a lack of examination, and an unwillingness to see what is there as a part of the human experience.

Thank you for carving out at least a little shelter from the storm.

No, thank you for your beautiful comment <3

We really do all need to just take the time to sit and examine things properly, sometimes.

There is the wife's awakening to the newness of her change, but also your awakening that you don't want the relationship as it has been.

Very open, and tender, but also bittersweet.

Well done!
