Subverted in Avatar: The Last Airbender: Prince Zuko is given tons of reasons to change sides in the second season finale, including the "encounter with the All-Loving Hero," Katara, after being put through hell all season:... and then doesn't. Wham! Remorse from that decision prompts him into a genuine Heel Face Turn half a season later in "Day of the Black Sun," and Zuko being Zuko, he takes the time for Calling the Old Man Out before he leaves. So a Double Subversion, all in all.

The Season 2 Finale of ATLA will be, by far, my favorite season finale of any show ever, end of story. I aspire to do something so masterfully.

She is missed here too.. (Sigh) I will forever be grateful for her being with you when you were preggers. And I also wonder the 'what if' question. I think she knew how much you loved her, and why the pulling away. Hugs and hugs and more loves!

<3 She was the one who took me to the hospital, the night my water broke.

I think she knew, too. It was hard not to see it, I guess, from the outside. I'm just glad she and Nick remained close, after. :)

I loved this and read it almost as an ode... related on a few levels as well... well done!

Thanks. :) Melissa is certainly missed and she's been on my mind a lot, recently. It kind of is meant to be an ode to her -- this is only a small part of the impact she's had on me. <3

Omg, she died? ;......;

I don't really know who she was, obviously, but the way you describe her and her passion for pop culture and fandom media and inclusivity... it reminds me of people I've met or people I know. It's incredibly easy to imagine little pieces of what she might have been like.

Life is too short sometimes. Far, far too short. I'm sorry for your loss.

Yeah. she was in a head-on collision with a drunk driver, early 2013. The drunk driver of course survived the accident. (He's been tried for manslaughter, I believe).

Melissa was the best. She was one of my best friends all throughout high school and was my Maid of Honor (Man of Honor, we joked) at my wedding. She wanted Bob to grow up calling her Uncle Mel. She helped raise him when he was very young.

It really is and it kills me that she died months before her 25th birthday. She was far, far too young.

He was tried and convicted to five years, kiddo. My hope is that he comes to understand what he took away, and how he hurt not one, but two families that night.

Mel loved you always. And Nick was her brother.

See, I never followed the proceedings after I provided a character witness for the trial. I hope he comes to understand that, too, but that man had several DUI's under his belt. So idk.

I know. <3

I am so sorry you lost your friend in such a tragedy. I'm sure she would have loved this. It was a wonderful tribute with a pop culture flavor.

We all are, because she certainly didn't deserve that kind of end. <3 She was an amazing person and I miss her all the time.

She would have loved this, too. I also like to think that maybe she's watching all of these things with me, from wherever she is. I'm not much of a pop-culture fiend but I enjoy my visual media a whoooole hell of a lot when done well, and she did, too.

I’ll treat you like a queen, it had said. You deserve the world and more.
Ohhhhh... So much woe at reading this. So much. It must just ache to remember this.

We should all have a friend so worth remembering, who gave so much. I'm so sorry she's gone.

It was one of those things that happened while we were in high school and it's not exactly a thing I always remember, but when I do, it hurts quite a bit, yeah.

She's my reminder to take care of myself, in a way. She also brought back the joy of watching "kids" shows and enjoying them despite being outside the target demographic. :) Story-telling these days in kids' shows is incredible, tbh. She'd love it. I wish she was still here, though. I think of her a lot.
