Lj Idol Season 9, Week 09: Keep Calm and (End this Meme)

May 16, 2014 10:14

“It’s quite simple, Bates,” Mitchel said, buffing his nails on his form-fitting suit. His lips curled upwards in a self-satisfied smile as his eyes stared clear through Savin. “Jasper will pick me, in the end. I am better than you, after all. In every way imaginable.” He glanced down the thin hallway of the Palace, gesturing to moving men as they ( Read more... )

Yowch! You can always count on Mitchel to take a bad situation and make it worse.

I knowwwww. This is probably the main reason I enjoy writing him so much. Jesus. He's just so much fun!

To write.

He's not really all that fun, otherwise.

Mitchel seems like a bit of an ass. Poor Savin.

Mitchel is very much an ass. It's pretty much his MO. I love him for it, I get excited writing moments like this, etc. But yes, poor Savin is right. =/

Oh my goodness, my stomach started twisting up in sympathy as soon as he got the text to come to the palace. Very good on drawing me in to sympathize with the character! and it does make me wonder how someone who appears to be a (lowly?) medical student might marry an emperor!

Savin is more or less my baby and I am happy to hear someone sympathizes with him, hah. He gets played up a lot as a bad guy in this book and I feel awful for him, twisting him this way, but it's all because he lets Mitchel get into his damn head. *sigh*

He's actually a full-fledged surgeon and a successful one, at that. (He's older than Jazz by roughly 7 years). He just finds reading his old medical texts soothing.

The details of how they met is still up in the air, as I have multiple explanations, but I know they met before Jazz actually became Emperor -- and that's the only detail I was EVER solid on. :) J&S have been my babies since I was 15, so... they've been with me forever and their story never quite stops shifting. :)

Is... have I missed a bunch of back entries about this character? I've tried to read every single entry every week for LJ Idol and my head gets dizzy and I tend to forget what I've already read (let alone the fact I have nowhere near the time to comment on every single entry).

Savin being older puts it in a little different context, but to me that makes him as a character a little more interesting, in that, even as a 34-year-old "grownup" I still tend to assume people who are older than me, or in positions of authority, are much more confident in life. Which is a total fallacy, but it's one in my head, so having Savin be the elder partner adds another little layer of depth, IMO.

But, people don't sympathize with him? Perhaps it's just this one piece and my own sort of wobbly/nonexistent romantic life, but I *definitely* could relate to being very sure and very unsure at the exact same time.

Nah, I haven't brought these characters into Season 9, yet. They've appeared in various pieces throughout S8 and the Exhibits, but I tend to post snippets of their story, and try to provide the necessary context in each piece (it's difficult, to say the least!). I don't expect everyone to know everything about them (especially since, heh, I have been working on this particular story off and on for over a decade). So you haven't missed anything, I promise. :)

Yeah, Savin's successful in his own right, but -- yeah. He's married to the Emperor. Who's younger than he is! That fallacy really does add a layer of depth and I haven't fully utilized it -- at least, not with Savin. Mitchel, on the other hand...

He's been harder to relate to in earlier versions, I think. But I have also revamped this a lot since S8, and a lot of the storyline has changed even though the outcome always ends up the same. :) So no worries! You're probably not alone, now, but I'm used to people being all GODDAMNIT SAVIN. Hah.
