I totally can't remember if this ends up screwing Peter over or not. What I think I remember is that each character's back story gets revealed just before it becomes relevant to the Challenge. And when it becomes relevant is when they revisit some aspect of what brought them there in the first place. Did I get all that right?
So are any of them going to pass the Challenges for "their" particular planet but then surprisingly fail at some later point? Or is each person's relevant planet their undoing in the Challenge (except for whoever ends up winning)? Sorry if this is a dumb question.
Aaaand, on to the next chapter!

Their backstories are revealed just as they are relevant to the progression of the book, yes. Peter goes first, because he's the first one to fail the challenge. Understanding his connection to Gina makes it easier to see how he fails as his time on Venus progresses.
The only three who will not fail at the point that their backstories are revealed will be Jordan, Saito, and Megumi. I'm trying to determine when Jordan's past sneaks up on him; Megumi's, I think, is before Saito's, and Saito's is last, between the three of them. I think he DOES fail, or he gets close to failing, but his redemption arc reaches its fruition by then. (or he fails, but still does what he can to help Jordan). If he's even still interested in Jordan, by the time I get to that point in canon.
Essentially, anyone who isn't those 3 are pretty much done as soon as their Story Chapter is revealed.
