Season 4, Episodes 7 & 8

Jun 07, 2010 22:42

The break is over, everyone!  Albeit closer to the end and that's depressing in and of itself but still!  More Tudors!

What did everyone think of these two episodes (sorry, I didn't see a discussion for episode 7--could have missed it; if I have, please disregard it)?

Spoilers in the comments.

This episode really felt like the beginning of the end.

I found the last scene between Mary and Chapuys really moving. He'd been the person closest to her for most of her life and now he was leaving England forever. The part where he gave her CoA's ring made me choke up a bit. I also liked how it seemed like we were seeing the real birth of "Bloody Mary" as she gave her speech about how she would do whatever it took to make the country "right" again if she became queen. Loved the styling in that scene too, Sarah looked gorgeous and the deep, blood-red color she was wearing was a genius reference to her future nickname.

It was actually another scene with Chapuys that really sticks out in my mind, where he told Henry he would be retiring. I rather liked the part where Henry had to lurch over on his own cane to circle and growl at him. It was one of the moments that illustrated nicely one of the themes of this season: that for all Henry's power, he too was an old man with a body in serious decline.

I read your comment and I must say that I totally agree with you. I found the final scene between Chapuys and Mary really moving - he was almost her only Catholic support since the loss of her mother and it's almost like Mary is on her own now. (It also scared me a little when she went into her bloody Mary rant!)

I also found it an interesting scene between Chapuys and Henry - especially since Chapuys addressed Katherine and not Henry! Both frail men, but interesting how much Henry was trying to hide it and pretend as though his pain was far less.

Loved your comment!

I did an "Oh, snap!" when he addressed Catherine. Fierce, Eustace.

I thought episode 7 was pretty good and as well as episode 8. I loved the talk between Mary and Chapuys. Very moving. Also when Henry collapses at the end, was so sad. :(

Oh, man, the Bishop is stuck in my craw. He REALLY wanted Catherine to sign those death warrants!

Someone is a little butthurt he didn't get his way...

Yes...I really hate him. But I saw in episodes summary that he will be forced to leave court, so, at least, at the end we will see him suffer...a little ;)

Yes I agree. I'm still sympathetic with Charles Brandon and I watched the parts with Brigitte and him more than once. The admiring look Henry gives to Charles when he's leaving the tent is one of the best parts of the episode, especially in contrast with his scornful look at Edward Seymour...
