On the flipside, when I had an 8 hour a day, 5 day a week job that was fairly tame in load (by comparison), but I ALWAYS had to have a cell at the ready which could pull me back in at a moment's notice, I felt like I was always on the clock.

No kidding! I try to never delineate work and play - if you stick to what you love and get good enough at it to stay "competitive," then you just live your live and watch the money come in. The trick in working that way: it all falls under the same schedule; the same pool of hours spent sending emails or promoting events is the same as the one spent gardening, playing, dating, or washing yer stinky ass.

I could definitely go for a dose of the "show up and do it 'til you're done" style of work... but I just haven't found anything as rewarding as what I'm doing now, so I'll just suffer through it until I get comfortable enough to do it with grace.
