The reunion was pretty lame. Lots of popular people couldn't be bothered to talk to us, a few more just said, "hi how are you? look, you married each other. etc. etc. etc

Poor baby! Poor you! She knew, though, that she was in the arms of loved ones and that they were trying to help her.
You'll know if her virgin breastfed gut has been altered by the sugars if her poop changes. But her poop is likely to change anyway between the teething and the sticking things in her mouth to relieve teething. :) I think it only takes a couple of weeks of just breastmilk though to restore the conditions and bacteria of the virgin state, so it's not totally irreversible.
really? i thought once bad stuff leaked in the open holes, there was no going back.
her poop is greenish and runnier, but it seems like teething is why. she is so miserable! but she finally seems to have figured out the sleeping thing, we slept in til almost 11 this morning! she has never done that before :-)
I think there's two concepts that are both issues during the first six months but are technically separate. One is the virgin gut that only exclusively breastfed babies have. Breastmilk is so digestible that the usual bacteria that feed on undigested waste aren't present, until baby eats cows-milk formula or solid foods or handfuls of grass. ;) If that other stuff goes away, then the "non-breastmilk" bacteria starve too and baby's gut goes back to normal.
But then there's the open gut that all babies have. The issue there is that bigger-than-usual molecules can get straight through the intestinal wall into the bloodstream and maybe trigger an allergy. I don't think that there's much in gripe water or teething tablets that's allergenic, so I think you're OK there too. :)
the hylands say they are totally safe, the gripe water says there is a rare chance of an allergic reaction. i suppose if it were going to happen we'd know by now though, huh?
I think you're okay in terms of open gut. When Audrey was really colicky, we gave her gripe water a lot (at least once a night) and I never noticed any changes in poop or anything like that.
what did she think of it? i tasted it and it's pretty nasty. alli seems to hate it, but then, i'm not sure what i could put in her mouth that she wouldn't at least try to spit out. it seems to help though. the hylands don't seem to do diddly squat ...
There are two brands that I've found. The Baby Bliss brand is disgusting (to me) and she hates it. Little Tummys tastes okay (to me) and she loves it. Which brand did you try? If it was Baby Bliss, get Little Tummys instead, if you can!
