A Rant by Macha

So what's my problem this time? Who remembers that amusing argument by Bush and his Torture!Rocks Attorneys General that we can toss suspected terrorists -- sorry, enemy combatants -- in the clink and throw away the key because ( Read more... )

Is it 2008 yet? merems411 December 2 2006, 01:28:25 UTC
Wha...I can't...I don't...::SPLUTTERS::

I read this report, and basically had the same headimplosion reaction to it, but you are so much more articulate than I could ever be about it.

I spent all Thanksgiving arguing with my Texan, conservative, religious family, and when I try to make points like this, they look at me and say, "Would you rather have your sister die in another 9/11?" Seriously. They really think that if I am for the humane treatment of all, then that means I heart terrorists, and want my family to die.

*headslam*

Great post!

EXACTLY. Just infuriating.

Well, yes, of course! That makes perfect sense. ::g:: Having spent 7 years living in Texas, I have some idea what you're dealing with, though my own family is largely Boston Irish Catholic Kennedy-Democrats. My father, however, seems to like MITT ROMNEY. WTF is that?

Anyway, yes. I don't understand how insisting on fairness has any bearing on the part where I want terrorists tossed in jail for life. After, you know, being found guilty and sentenced. Call me crazy!

Is this thing even on the blogosphere? I haven't read anything on, say, the TPM feed. Why don't you send it to them, with your comments? It needs to get some play somewhere, just so more people are aware of it, and I'd think TPM, or a TPM-type blog, would eat it up. 'Cause lord knows, that's the worst sort of revolting, repugnant bullshit anyone could possibly dream up, and I swear to god, if the new Congress doesn't do something about it, I'm giving up and moving the fuck out of this country.

IIRC, I found the link via TPM originally. I don't recall a detailed post, though. Probably a summation and a link. But, yeah, it's not getting much notice because it's complicated and they're likely terrorists. Grrrrrrrrr.
